Hello World! My name is Graham Martling Frederick Stuard, & in May, I graduated from Hamilton College with a computer science major. Since then, I have realized all I want from my career is to work with games, one way or another–I have always loved all mediums of game, and I find it to be the perfect fusion between a creative, social and writing/speaking based career with my computer science, technical and logical background.
This is a blog to document my process of looking for a job in games, because I have realized I’ve kept most of my CS education and game design side projects private from the rest of the world. It never occurred to me in college to be putting stuff like this online, & while I am happy that college me was able to live blissfully unaware of the tribulations of the job search, this blog & website will be my way of making up for lost time.
I will post a blog entry about what personal game projects I have worked on, what techniques I am learning, etc. each week on this here. On top of that, the main appeal of this website is it will be where I host my games and projects! I have dozens of unfinished Unity and Unreal projects sitting around, and many more school projects I am proud of, & I will try to once a week go through an old one, polish it up, and post it here!
Here’s an example: today and yesterday, I got a late start to the GMTK 2024 game jam! The theme is Built to Scale, and so I decided to make a game about a little robot who was literally, built to scale (as in climb)! It’s been a minute (8 months) since I’ve worked in 2D, so it took a little to get back into the flow of things, but I spent most of yesterday writing & polishing some basic platformer movement! Today I threw it all out (I don’t know why I didn’t want to use the Unity physics engine for a game jam game!), and started adding in some pen & paper assets.

It took me longer than I would’ve liked to use the new input system as well. Things are coming along slowly, and I really need to clear some space on my computer…

That’s all. Wish me luck, and let me know if you have a job for me!
Finally, a big thank you to Nick Katsivelos for giving me the idea to start this!
